Overflows

The sight of water flowing out of control from outside overflow pipes is quite disturbing. This could be due to a failure of the valve system that controls the inlet and outlet of water in our systems. These controls are usually in the form of a float-operated valve (ball valve). These valves do fail quite often. A Dalston Plumber can fix faulty valves. A). The usual reason for the failure of this appliance is usually down to a faulty washer which has worn away or perished through constant use or it may be a build up of scale that has ruined the action of the seal.B). The ball float can develop leaks and fill with water, which will stop the floating action that stops the level rising too high but this is quite rare. But if it does happen simply replace the float. Dalston Plumbers can carry out this type of work.A Guide to Replacement of a Valve is below:1). Isolate the water supply. Should you have a storage cistern, lower its water level by flushing the WC or opening taps.2). Take out the old valve. Normally this is done by undoing a large union nut in the cistern that releases the valve for servicing and inspection. The part that remains holds the valve in the cistern and onto which the water supply is connected. 3). You now just simply undo this nut on the new valve. Install the replacement valve. Which is quite straightforward.4). Alter the water level as needed. This is normally indicated by a mark inside the WC cistern saying ‘water level’, or in the case of the storage cistern is generally 25mm below the point were it would ultimately overflow.
